Let’s turn back the ol’ calendar for a jiffy. The year was 1969. We won the space race and landed on the moon. Peace, love and rock ‘n’ roll defined a new generation. A large family sitcom aired its first episode and became larger than life. It was a big year for America. But guess what? It was an even bigger year for breakfast. Jimmy Dean introduced a better quality sausage. This event and so many others changed our lives forever. Now, we don’t just say that tootin’ our own horn. Without Jimmy Dean’s extraordinary vision and commitment to quality, the last 50 years would have been a lot less tasty and optimistic.

Becoming the Sausage King


Jimmy Dean’s love of sausage goes back to his roots, growing up on a farm in Texas and making fresh sausage with his grandfather. But one morning in particular, while having breakfast at a local diner with his brother, Jimmy bit into a piece of gristle and exclaimed, “You know, there’s got to be room in this country for a good quality sausage.” Being a man who believed in not just dreaming but doing, he created a signature recipe, built a factory and started the Jimmy Dean Meat Company. The rest is history.

50 Years of Quality


From that very first sausage roll, Jimmy Dean was so committed to quality that he couldn’t help but tell you about it. He went on to appear in hundreds of his own commercials and his charming Southern musings about sausage and life still grace our work today. Speaking of today, we continue to create quality products, making us the number one sausage in America and a leader in the breakfast category. In fact, almost 60 million people enjoyed it last year. That’s about 3,000 times the size of Plainview, Texas, where it all began. So what’s on our plate for the next 50 years? Well, in the words of the man himself, “Quality brought us here and we’re gonna stick with that forever.” We thank you a bunch.
